Rez Infinite -Synesthesia Suit

Tetsuya Mizuguchi + Rhizomatiks Architecture + Keio Media Design
The “Synesthesia Suit” was created to embody the multi-sensory concept behind the VR (virtual reality) video game “Rez Infinite”. The 26 actuators placed within the suit vibrate throughout the person’s body along with the music and simultaneously light up via LED. There is an element of texture to the vibrations — whether it be the feeling of stringed instruments or drums being played — to which the LED colors and light patterns synchronize as the game progresses. This multimodal suit allows the person to experience music not just through its ears but also through the senses of touch and sight.

For this exhibit, the space has been designed to extend these multimodal senses of the “Synesthesia Suit” (lights, vibrations) into the area. It is also an experiment to simulate the full body VR experience in the space.

  • Rhizomatiks Architecture

A professional team thinking new contents and realizing them. We help our clients, self-government bodies and national governments to develop their facilities, local area and urban cities. Our greatest goal is to accomplish the whole process, from brainstorming about what the contents should be at each place and making a research with our client to think and realize our concept as a final output regardless of work scale, such as city development with forming a new community, urban development with "definition" of the area based on its context or facility development with brand-building. We ponder the place, event, contents, space and city at the same time, then produce the best output, not clinging to create a spatial representation. We think even an art event as an option.
