Leaked Light Field

Digital Nature Group (University of Tsukuba,Yoichi Ochiai Laboratory

By drilling small holes in a material that does not allow light to pass through, it can be changed to a display that creates a spatial spread of light. Various materials not limited to glass can be used for information display. By subjecting a plate-like material to microscopic hole processing of about 100 μm and computing the leakage of light using a computer, different information can be output for each viewing angle and stereoscopic display is enabled. The display produced using this technology can use materials such as leather material, wood grain, stones, mirror, etc. on the surface. This makes it possible to present information without losing the original texture and design of furniture and buildings and to expand the possibility of design.
