Masamichi Toyama founded Smiles in 2000 and assumed the role of CEO. In addition to Soup Stock Tokyo, a soup specialty shop, he has also developed giraffe, a necktie brand, along with a number of other food- and fashion-related brands. For the artistic activities of Smiles, the company has exhibited pieces at Echigo Tsumari Art Triennale 2015 and 2016 Setouchi Triennale.
