Rhizomatiks(Rhizomatiks/TOYOTA BOSHOKU CORPORATION)Placing the focus squarely on humans, these interiors constantly adapt to conform to the driver's and passengers' needs. This connection of human and vehicle allows occupants to experience an entirely new type of mobile space. This approach to interiors and vehicles starts with the human, bringing the "mobile space" into a whole new world. When human and vehicle are connected at the conscious level, the car then becomes a part of the body.Designed to realize higher quality time and space, these interiors closely conform and freely adapt to the human occupants as one "form of the future" born of a human-centered mindset.

Robotype
Yuichiro KatsumotoHumans use letters, which are two-dimensional static symbols, for communication. To write these letters, we have to move our body and spend some time; therefore, it can be said that a letter is the trajectory of movement and time. Based on this notion, I began studies of multi-dimensional kinetic typography, mainly using robots to display a letter, and visualize its time and movement simultaneously. And I named this project and the devices as Robotype.
There are three kinds of Robotype so far: Sujigen for displaying Arabic numerals, Mojigen for the Roman alphabet, and 7×7 which is primarily for double-byte characters such as Japanese. Each display is designed with conventional computer displays as a motif. At this exhibition, a video documentation "Robotype 3" and 7x7 are displayed.

CD Prayer
Yuichiro KatsumotoThe compact disk used to be a symbol of the multimedia era, but it became the latest out-of-date media. In Singapore, it is quite hard to buy a new CD even though there are some shops that still sell vinyl records. Most people listen music via the Internet, not physical media. And they probably keep CDs in their storeroom.CD Prayer is a Buddha statue designed to previve CD music. With CD Prayer, the CD will work as a halo of Buddha and give hi-fi music and enlightenment to the people.

Waterfall
Gil Kuno“Waterfall” is about the singularity of chaos. The animated sequence is mapped from footage of a waterfall in Vienna, Austria. “Waterfall” makes use of flip dot display technology from the 1960’s often used on bus and airport destination signs. Though normally for text, they have been programmed to run animations. In nature, one can find various dualities/pluralities: dark/light, sun/moon, etc. At a waterfall, the chaos of the water is a constant throughout the day – a universal singularity. Since the flip dot technology expresses content in a hard black/white duality, I wanted to articulate singularity with it.

Montagne, cent quatorze mille polygones
Joanie LemercierThis piece depicts a large valley surrounded by mountain peaks. In fact, what we see is just a grid mesh distorted by an algorithm. The procedural landscape questions the connection between nature and code : what if our reality could be recreated, simulated with mathematical functions?
A layer of projected light creates an illusion of depth and blurs our sense of distance. Days, nights, seasons bring life to the wallpaper landscape, distorting our perception of time and space.

Visualization of Air Conditioner
Akira Wakita ( Akira Wakita+DAIKIN INDUSTRIES, LTD. )This software was developed by the joint research project of Keio University SFC Wakita Laboratory and Daikin Design. The aim of this project is to visualize indoor airflow from art and science perspective. The intention is for users to reinterpret the recognition of air conditioner. In this project, we challenged to visualize the beauty of indoor air flow. We can visualize various factors in three dimensions such as the direction and the strength of air, the position and the size of obstacles, the spread of moisture, and the temperature change. The new binding of art and science established in this project will renew our understanding of the world. You will witness a superb view hidden in your room through the air conditioner simulation and visualization.

Imaginary Soundwalk
QosmoWe, human beings, can imagine sounds by taking a glance at a photo: A scene of a beach may bring the sound of crashing waves to mind. You may hear sounds of horns and street advertising from a picture of a busy crossing. "Imaginary Soundwalk" is a sound installation focusing on such our unconscious behavior.
In this installation, an AI system trained with hours of video data keeps generating imaginary "soundscape" by selecting the best-matched sound to given scenery from a pre-collected massive environmental sound dataset. Viewers can freely walk around in the soundscape imagined by the AI on Google Street View. A slight gap before playing sounds nudges viewers to imagine by themselves.
By externalizing such synesthetic thinkings as a system, we tried to shed lights on the power of imagination we all have in common.

Transform any model to Kendama
Hasada Hiroki(Digital Nature Group,University of Tsukuba,Yoichi Ochiai Laboratory)Kendama has long been familiar to many people, and its origin is said to be France of the 16th century. The shape of the present Kendama is very limited, but by borrowing the power of the computer, it is possible to make various shapes of kendama. In this method, by optimizing the center of gravity and adjusting the mass so that the 3D model created by the designer can be regarded as a kendama ball, it can be transformed into a Kendama that is easy to play.

Kohei Ogawa(Digital Nature Group,University of Tsukuba,Yoichi Ochiai Laboratory)What is exhibited here is a flower vase and a dip pen made using capillary phenomenon. This flower vase made with the 3D printer has a microstructure, and it absorbs the liquid if its structure contacts the liquid. This liquid transport is due to the capillary phenomenon occurring within its structure. These structures enable the transport of water by capillary phenomenon in the structure.
Conventional flower vase arranges plants from above and waters the plants in the same way. In addition, the dip pen adapts the capillary phenomenon structure to the pen tip and create it using only 3D printers.

Possessed Mannequins
Ryota Kawamura(Digital Nature Group,University of Tsukuba,Yoichi Ochiai Laboratory)A mannequin exists without life in spite of its isomorphism with human. Therefore, it seems that it stands upright without any emotion in front of people going and leaving. In this project, we sought an experience to breath inorganic mannequins. By looking into the head mounted display, you can share the viewpoint randomly with a certain mannequin. However, you cannot understand which mannequin shares my viewpoint until you grasp your position by looking around. Which mannequin do you possess and where is it seen by anyone? As the result, what kind of emotions do you have? Through this work, it may be possible to catch a glimpse of such deep psychology of human.

Natsumi Kato(Digital Nature Group,University of Tsukuba,Yoichi Ochiai Laboratory)With the development of technology computers are indispensable for various human production activities. However, clothing essential to human beings is still being designed by the former generation of human beings. Therefore, we propose computerized clothing design using Deep Neural Network (DNN). This is a computer learning a specific brand design and presenting a new design with an image to a clothing patterner. From the presented image, the patterner creates a pattern and completes it as a new clothing design. We actually made a series of clothing from computer learning through design, patterning by patterners, costume creation, and created clothing "DeepWear" designed by deep learning.

ENERGY #02 [with LEXUS LC]
Akinori Goto (Akinori Goto×LEXUS LC)The human body is capable of exquisite movement, the beauty of which lies not only in the act itself but also in its entanglement with the concept of time.
For this piece, the artist analyzed data from human motions he considered beautiful, and reconstructed them in three-dimensional form. Each frame is seamlessly weaved together in an attempt to give shape to the invisible concept of time, and aims to capture the relationship, qualities, and beauty of time and motion.
The mesh sculpture in mid-air represents a time cluster, and when a beam of light is projected on it, "motion" appears.
The form that extends from the center outward, as if cutting through space, traces the trajectory of human motion, and is designed so impart, upon taking step back for a wider view, an image of a human body in motion.
As with the design of LEXUS vehicles, which conveys the fluid nature of time, similarly imbued is the present work, in the way it captures time’s form, beauty, and qualities. When two like minds embark on a journey together, a new kind of creativity is born.Roppongi Hills, Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEWRoppongi Hills, Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEW -

A Tea Space with a Sphere
Shinichi Takemura / Earth Literacy Program(NPO)The Japanese “Art of Life” is embodied in a tea ceremony, or the way of tea, through which we contemplate the whole universe in the void of a small tea bowl (“The Book of Tea” by Tenshin Okakura). The tea ceremony space is designed as a multi-media complex, composed of various items (utensils, hanging scrolls, etc.) which are supposed to imply messages concerning the specific time (season), the theme of gathering, and social/ecological circumstances, to mediate the effective communication between the host and the guest, man and nature. This modern portable tea space designed by Shigeru Uchida, in which a digital globe and smartphone windows connected to various sites around the world (“live” image; each 2-hour time difference from one another) are representing the conditions of our living planet, is a humble step to rejuvenate the concept of traditional tea space for mediation and meditation.

Street Debater
Tomo KiharaStreet debating is a new type of job that collects and shares public opinions in exchange for coins. It also serves as an initial viable step for people who wish to discontinue begging by allowing them to earn money in a dignified way to restore their ties to the community in an equal footing. This job also aims to rectify social polarization and break the echo-chambers that we are in so often. What can rectify social polarization is not street protests where one-sided opinions are forced against each other, but a friendly public discussion where people from multiple backgrounds encounter one another. Reflective Echo
WOW × PokémonThis work repeatedly reflects a kaleidoscopic animation by projecting an image onto the base of a mirror coated pyramid. The image, spreading out as though to infinity, welcomes visitors by creating a space that blends truth and falsehood, appearing at times like a flower and at others like a geometric figure.
This work is based off of a work presented by Yoshiokubo, Pokémon, and WOW for "Pokémon loves Fashion at PITTI UOMO", which was a part of "PITTI IMMAGINE UOMO", a men's fashion trade fair that was held in Florence, Italy, in June 2017. Last time we brought the charactor to combine with the world of fashion, but with this work we're seeking to combine with the art world, changing the space by extracting elements of the characters and then reinterpreting and reconstructing them with this visualization and installation art.

The Earth Clock
Shinichi Takemura / Earth Literacy Program(NPO)Bucky Fuller who conceived the idea of “Spaceship Earth” once insisted on the necessity of the computerized globe at the UN headquarter, the spherical installation which could represent in real time the present situation of the world to update the decision-making process of international affairs. Still today, however, our imagination is confined in a 2-dimensional map invented in the 16th century. How can we address the gap between our globalized lifestyle and the outdated perspective? Tangible Earth is the world's first interactive digital globe. Using the data constantly updated online, 12 spheres installed in the form of “Earth Clock” dynamically illustrate various aspects of our planet such as current weather, natural disasters, global migration of birds, cross-border transfer of air pollutants, climate change, and the SDGs issues (water-stress, malnutrition, etc.). Designing a “sense-ware” which enhances the feeling of global connectedness is essential to live creatively in the age of the Anthropocene.

THOUGHT [with LEXUS LS]
Akinori Goto (Akinori Goto×LEXUS LS)Japanese sensitivities and traditions have stood the test of time, being passed down for generations. By weaving these together with the latest technology, they take on distinct shapes, and provide us with new discoveries and surprises.
The LEXUS LS series exemplifies a brilliant blend of Japanese tradition and cutting edge technology; it breaks the mold for automobiles and reaffirms a uniquely Japanese ideology and aesthetic. The present work resonates with this concept, and reconstructs Japanese traditions using modern technology.
At its heart is a revolving circular form similar to those found in past toki-series works, and with use of traditional Japanese dance as a motif, it seeks to draw from uniquely Japanese motion and give shape to time itself. What can be learnt through glimpsing into this distinctly Japanese ideology and sense of beauty? This is what it seeks to explore.ROPPONGI HILS Mori Tower 2F, Hills CaféROPPONGI HILS Mori Tower 2F, Hills Café -
