Versus
David LetellierVersus (2011) is a sound installation consisting of two kinetic sculptures placed face to face. Each sculpture is made out of 12 triangular panels, hinged and powered by six linear actuators, controlled by a specific program. At the center of each corolla, a loudspeaker and a microphone allow to play and record sounds. At regular intervals, each sculpture produces a sound, simultaneously recorded and analyzed by the opposite sculpture, which then moves according to the frequencies of this sound. Like a feedback loop, it then plays back the recorded sound, with the errors and disturbances caused by the reverberating space and the visitors.

Colloidal Display
Yoichi OchiaiThe morphos butterflies are floating on the bubble film against the background of the streets of Tokyo. Ultrasonic technologies enabled the projection of images by vibrating ultra-thin bubble film. The colloidal liquid screen diffusely reflects the light to produce a change in texture, so the image that reflects and shines is particularly visible. With the fusion of state-of-the-art science, technology, and art, materiality and virtuality were superimposed, and a fairly enchanted world was realized.Roppongi Hills, Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEWRoppongi Hills , Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEW -
Levitrope
Yoichi OchiaiLeviation is strongly related to the magic and the enchantment. Media Instruments in Edison's age are developped to defy the gravity by the rotated visual images. Here is the artwork called "Levitrope", this word stands for "lev(levitation)" and "trope(rotation)". This media installation displays levitated metalic balls and they rotates on the wheel like structures. It reminds us our body and enbodiment of ourselves under the gravity. We envision these zero gravity kinetic sculpture will new media installation of Digital Nature Age.Roppongi Hills, Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEWRoppongi Hills , Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEW -
Whisper of Spirits
Yoichi OchiaiProject to revive the presence of human and atmosphere in space with spatial acoustic technology by super directional speaker. At the Kempoku Art Festival 2016, as a space installation, we created a feeling of classroom feeling in the schoolyard of the abolished school. Also at the Kempoku Arts Festival, a work "The Babble of the Air" that generates the sound flow of invisible river by collaboration with architect Kazuyo Sejima was exhibited.Roppongi Hills, Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEWRoppongi Hills , Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEW -
Syringe-worked Mermaid

Leaked Light Field
Digital Nature Group (University of Tsukuba,Yoichi Ochiai LaboratoryBy drilling small holes in a material that does not allow light to pass through, it can be changed to a display that creates a spatial spread of light. Various materials not limited to glass can be used for information display. By subjecting a plate-like material to microscopic hole processing of about 100 μm and computing the leakage of light using a computer, different information can be output for each viewing angle and stereoscopic display is enabled. The display produced using this technology can use materials such as leather material, wood grain, stones, mirror, etc. on the surface. This makes it possible to present information without losing the original texture and design of furniture and buildings and to expand the possibility of design.Roppongi Hills, Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEWRoppongi Hills , Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEW -
silk print
Digital Nature Group (University of Tsukuba,Yoichi Ochiai Laboratory)In this work, we consider silkworm as 3d printer. When silkworms were placed on a flat surface, we made the silkworms create nonwoven fabrics of 3d shape by utilizing the property of continuing to spit the thread without making cocoon. Up to now, we have produced products by taking out yarn from silkworm cocoon, spinning yarn and processing cloth, but by this method we can make the silkworms themselves produce products.Roppongi Hills, Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEWRoppongi Hills , Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEW -

The structure containing the movement around us is beautiful.
In this project we print motions as part of the structure.
Conventionally, the 3D printer object was static.
What is exhibited here is a 3D printer object containing a structure that acts as an actuator.
The geometry of the structure is designed so that the object deformation as desired and it enables movement as simulated with Simple linear actuator .

Omotenashi Mask
Yosuke Ushigome (Takram)Omotenashi Mask explores how to aid cross-cultural communication through technological interventions such as accent transfer and facial reenactment. Rather than aiming for perfect communication between two languages, an ideal for which many excellent algorithms continue to be developed, these prototypes capture and translate the more complex and subtle non-verbal cues that are expressed in face-to face communication.Roppongi Hills, Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEWRoppongi Hills , Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEW -
Playful Hands
Minoru Ito (Takram)The barriers to uptake of myoelectric prosthetic arms for children are largely about affordability, access and perception. Takram sought to design a robust yet playful alternative that uses low cost construction, sensors and actuators.
The three prototypes experiment with a range of gripping functions that balance manual and automatic operations. The aim is to provide children with a fun yet controllable ‘hand’ that can support optimal development during early stages and lead to more advanced alternatives as they grow.
Future applications include adding AI functionality, and incorporating automatic operations to existing prosthetic products and educational toys.Roppongi Hills, Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEWRoppongi Hills , Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEW -

Think Evolution #1 : Kiku-ishi(Ammonite)
AKI INOMATAAfter prospering for 300 million years ammonite disappeared at the same time when dinosaurs extinct 66 million years ago. From its shell structure and fossils, it is assumed that ammonite is closely related to squid and octopus, The octopus has thrown away its shells in the course of evolution, but it is known to use tools such as coconut shells and bivalves to protect to protect its soft body. I was inspired by the evolutionary story, and began a journey of thought experiments to restore the shape of the excavated ammonite shell and encounter octopus.

Scalar Fields
Akira Wakita+Tetsuya KomuroThis work visualizes the pressure field around the sole of a shoe. The propagation of pressure in air was visualized and recorded in 8K video. During the Ars Electronica Festival 2016, the visualization has been exhibited as floor and wall projection at Deep Space 8K with a marvelous 5.1 ch sound experience. A small-scale storm is raging in the micro space around the shoe sole. Wind pressure generated due to walking, blows off the mite from the carpet. Converting to macro scale, it is similar to the phenomenon in which human beings get blown off by the air pressure generated when buildings collapse or air raids are conducted in war regions. Through simulation and visualization, we may obtain a wide range of perception connecting the micro to the macro world.

floatio
Toshiya Yui+Tomohiro Yokota+Tomoko Hashida“floatio" is an I/O device that is able to make any spherical object float.
In this exhibition, a model of an apple is used as the object. Newton discovered the concept of universal gravitation after watching a falling apple. This device, however, enables the apple to float and move upward .
It will not be so long before all things in daily life float, like the introduction of drones, so now is the time to imagine our life surrounded by floating objects. One of the characteristics of this phenomenon is lifelike movement. Floating objects can be perceived as moving automatically; therefore, they make us feel affection to them as if they are alive. The motion of floating gives life to each single object, resulting in a change in the relationship between objects and users.Roppongi Hills, Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEWRoppongi Hills , Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEW -
Zoom in Face
Yuta SasakiThe classic scene you see in a Japanese samurai drama, a sudden zoom-in to the main character’s face along with a jingle. That effect must always come along with a jingle and the jingle must come along with the zoom-in effect. This device forces the viewer to experience this classical drama effect, whether they like it or not. Through this ‘forced zoom-in,’ all the viewers, each with a different background, can and will share a common experience. Each viewers’ personal background that everyone has is mixed and shared with joy and excitement by this device. A zoom-in to your face is also a message saying someone is paying attention to you and that your presence is positively affirmed.Roppongi Hills, Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEWRoppongi Hills , Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEW -
toki- series_♯01
Akinori GotoThis composition depicts the materialization of time by connecting it with movement. Although at first glance it may just look like a white mesh mass, selections of time can be reproduced by projecting slits of light. This is an attempt to clearly demonstrate time, an invisible phenomenon, and its relationship with movement through a physical depiction, and in doing so discover the true beauty and nature of time itself. In toki-BALLET #02, I use my own camera to shoot the trajectory of a dancer, momentarily dissect the motion from that point, and then reconnect it. By projecting a slit of light on the composition, the dancer's motions can be reproduced in that space from my point of view. This is an attempt to represent time by connecting the location of the viewer to the dance itself.Roppongi Hills, Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEWRoppongi Hills , Mori Tower 52F, TOKYO CITY VIEW -
Rez Infinite
Tetsuya MizuguchiA VR-evolved version of the synesthesia game “Rez”. The player becomes a hacker, floating through cyberspace destroying viruses and purifying the world around them. Each sound emitted from the player becomes music which fuses with the visuals, with the beat changing into vibrations. Set in a quantized cyberspace, a countless number of particles fuse with the music to provide a synesthetic storytelling experience for the player that feels like “seeing music” and “listening to images”. Rez has won many accolades, including best VR game at The Game Awards 2016 in America and the VR Special Award at the PlayStation Awards.
